In this international group exhibition, the book is presented as both medium and object by various artists in different ways – not only as an inspiration and form of expression, but as something that can be pleasurable or burdensome as well. as Opposed to the artist’s book, the theme here is not the artistic rendering of the “book” format; rather, the book by virtue of the specific nature of its material and medium becomes the theme of the artistic positions – as the vehicle of culture, knowledge, narration, poetry, drama, and history. Whether as individual volumes or in libraries of enormous dimensions, books manifest culture and determine intellectual, emotional, and social life. The exhibition shows the book as a medium vulnerable to destruction (water, fire, air) as well as one that can itself cause destruction.

Artists: Olaf Breuning, Clegg+Guttmann, Francois Truffaut, Candida Höfer, Anselm Kiefer, Pasquale Martini, Claudio Parmiggiani, Laura Padgett, Roman Signer, Michael Ziegler, Peter Wüttrich, a.o.
